A Letter From Our President
Kailey Wallenius
Welcome to Kappa Alpha Theta, Gamma chapter at Butler University. Our entire chapter thanks you for taking time to visit our website, and learn more about the many wonderful aspects of Theta.
Kappa Alpha Theta values many different characteristics as a house, including involvement on campus and other involvement on campus and other areas of life. Thetas are involved in over 100 organizations around campus, with over 50 having executive roles in those organizations. Creating strong connections outside of Greek life has always been important for all our members in order to make the most of our Butler experience.
Another area that Theta emphasizes are academics. 54 members received 4.0 GPAs in the spring semester, and we remained the house with the highest GPA for the 7th semester in a row. Our academic development director strives to ensure every member is confident in their academic capabilities, including creating study groups based on majors and minors.
Our core goal in membership is a focus on our two philanthropies, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Theta Foundation. CASA provides an advocate for children in the foster care system, who otherwise struggle to have representation during difficult situations. Events like KATs and Dogs and CASA Carnival sell different foods, drinks, and game tickets in order to raise money for the Indianapolis local chapter of CASA, Kid's Voice. A percentage of our fund raised goes to the Theta Foundation, which benefits members of Theta who face unexpected tragedies. This reflects the mantra that we are Thetas for life.
My own membership in Theta has brough so many new flourishes to my life. Starting out as a freshman, I was intrigued by Greek Life, and wasn't sure if I was going to be able to find my place. I felt intimidated by the women that I talked to during the formal recruitment process, and was excited to see if I would one day grow to be like them. As I enter my final year at Butler, and my second semester of being Gamma Theta's president, I have found my family, closest friends, and sisters. Getting to know so many incredible women and see their growth throughout the years is a blessing. I myself have grown so much, and learned to take every opportunity and advantage that has been offered to me. The gratitude I feel towards Kappa Alpha Theta and Butler as a whole cannot be explained, but I know that no matter where I am later in life, Theta will always be a part of me.
